Convention Centre
The Convention Centre project in Tiruppur is part of the Smart City Mission. The project was proposed by TSCL and it is being developed in the ABD area of the city by dismantling the existing Town-Hall structure.
Tiruppur is home to myriad garment manufacturing companies, and so a number of exhibitions and expos are conducted frequently by different associations for marketing and selling their products. Foreign companies showcase their state-of-the-art machineries and other technological advancements in such expos to develop the knitwear industry in the city. Besides, many cultural programmes are conducted by the locals in private open spaces. A well-equipped convention centre will fulfil the requirements of such activities and will be highly useful for businesses and customers alike.
For the above stated reasons, the construction of a convention centre was proposed by the TSCL under the smart city mission. Town-Hall was chosen for developing the convention centre, because it is nestled in the heart of the city, amidst busy commercial outlets. Following detailed surveys and meticulous planning, the old and damaged Town-Hall building is now being developed as a Convention Centre by dismantling and redesigning the layout in order to ease its utility and serve more purposes.
The proposal envisages the development of nearly 8000 sq m that includes a convention centre with meeting rooms of varied sizes, exhibition space, space for public movement, ample parking space, and other support facilities. The centre will feature important amenities such as toilets, food joints, waiting halls, rainwater harvesting, security, and fire safety measures.
The total investment for this project is Rs. 52 crore. The work is currently in progress.
