Description
Presently the Tiruppur corporation receives water from 3 supply schemes, scheme 1& 2 with river Bhavani as source and scheme 3 with river Cauvery as a source
Scheme 1 was commissioned in 1965 and is owned and maintained by Tiruppur corporation, Scheme 2 was commissioned in 1993 and is operated and maintained by TWAD board, Scheme 3 was commissioned in 2005 and is owned, operated, and maintained by NTADCL
Existing distribution system is designed for 90 lpcd for a population of 6,39,000. The new water supply was required as Scheme 1 pipes were more than 50 years old, scheme 2 pipes were more than 25 years old and the expanded corporation area also does not have a proper distribution system.
The population of the expanded corporation as per 2011 census is 8.78 lakhs and projected population for years 2020, 2035 and 2050 are expected to be 10.80 lakh, 14.80, and 19.50 lakh respectively and as per the CPHEEO norms rate of LPCD is 135 LPCD and is estimated to be 226.20 MLD and 297.4 MLD for intermediate and ultimate stages. Further the extended area of corporation does not have a planned water distribution system.
Total project cost excluding maintenance is estimated around INR 1063.51 Crores and the operation and maintenance cost is estimated around INR 30 Cr for base year, INR 36 Cr for intermediate year and INR 50 Cr for ultimate years.
