Description

The upcoming MLCP (Multi-Level Car Parking) at Town Hall (Kumaran Road) in Tiruppur is an important project that has been proposed under the smart city initiative. The project site is located in the heart of the city, and once it is open to the public, it is sure to become a remarkable structure that will ideally fulfil the parking requirements of one of the most commercial and busiest areas of the district.

The Kumaran Road is 0.64 km long and is the prominent shopping area of Tiruppur, with a number of commercial outlets and buzzing traffic throughout the day. However, the current parking situation in this area is pathetic, with two-wheelers and four-wheelers parked at random, causing a slew of problems for both pedestrians and motorists.

Most commercial buildings do not have a dedicated parking lot for their employees and customers, leading to extensive and senseless parking of vehicles on both sides of Kumaran Road. This results in heavy traffic and chaos, affecting the public to a large extent.

The Tiruppur Corporation conducted a detailed on-street parking study and survey in the area, after which the proposal to construct an MLCP at Town Hall (Kumaran Road) was included in the Smart City Initiative in the year 2019. The proposed MLCP project aims at effectively managing the parking inconveniences and commotion along Kumaran Road.

The authorities started the Town Hall MLCP project in 2019. The parking facility will contain four floors and a ground floor, with ample parking slots for bikes and cars. The MLCP can accommodate around 1200 bikes and 40 cars.

The project proposal comes with a wide range of provisions, including automatic token and toll collection booths, sufficient lighting and ventilation, restrooms, power backup, 24x7 CCTV surveillance, drinking water, rain water and sewage systems, smoke exhaust, and maintenance programs.

Currently, the flooring concrete work is in progress on the 3rd and 4th floors of the building. The total investment for this project is Rs. 12.02 crore. The ongoing work is expected to be completed soon, and the MLCP will be open for public use in the near future.
